Centring the grinding head
A simple way to centre the grinding wheel to the chain, without resorting to measurment, is by gauging the grinding wheel off the depth gauges (rakers/drags). Fit the chain into the chain guide and adjust the chain clamp as previously described. Raise the grinding wheel clear of the chain and press the ‘Count + Inch Fwd’ to bring the feed to the fully forward - left cutter. Lower the grinding wheel and adjust the feed pawl so as to position the depth gauge (raker/drag) immediately behind and just touching the rear face of the wheel (manually spin the wheel & listen). Now repeat for the other side using the ‘Count + Inch Rev’ command. See fig below.
If the grinding head needs to be adjusted, loosen the wingnut and wind the centering screw with the 3mm hex key provided. Winding the screw in a clockwise direction will move the grinding head towards the front of the machine (towards the operator) and winding the screw in an anticlockwise direction will move the grinding head towards the rear of the machine (away from the operator). This process should place the grinding head exactly in the centre of the chain.
Final adjustment should be checked by measuring the length of both left and right hand cutters.
CAUTION
Large pitch chains such as 3/4" harvester and all Scratcher chains require the sensor to be reversed. Failure to do this will result in damage to the sensor.
Chainging from small pitch chains to larger pitch chains will require the sensor to be moved back away from the chain before fitting them to th guide.Failure to do this will result in damage to the sensor.
